Yes, the cycle will continue because it’s not about generations - it’s always the same system of Capitalism, and there’s shitty people in every generation who will manipulate or excell in it.
So the whole idea of generations is just another distraction from the core issue: The System’s purpose is what it does. The System’s purpose is the outcomes it creates.
Your generation (whatever that is) will not suddenly be excempt from this fact.
It might be helpful to note that people sometimes simplify observations in order to make them broadly humorous without too much background.
…and other people might point out that it’s not really a joke, just a fact that happens to everyone… Because we’re all in the same system.
