Alternatives When the environmental review process began, six alternatives were under consideration. LA SkyRail Express requested the removal of Alternative 2 from further consideration in the environmental process. Metro concurred with this request in July 2024. As the environmental analysis has continued, the remaining alternatives have retained their existing numbering (Alternatives 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6). Metro is now studying five project alternatives, as well as the required “No Project” Alternative. Click on an alternative below to view more information. Alternative 1 Monorail with aerial alignment in Interstate 405 (I-405) corridor and electric bus connection to UCLA. Customer Journey This short video depicts an example of a customer journey on Alternative 1, as compared to the current transit trip to show the potential time savings with the project. Alternative 3 Monorail with aerial alignment in Interstate 405 (I-405) corridor and underground alignment between Getty Center and Wilshire Bl. Customer Journey This short video depicts an example of a customer journey on Alternative 3, as compared to the current transit trip to show the potential time savings with the project. Alternative 4 Heavy rail with underground alignment south of Ventura Bl and aerial alignment generally along Sepulveda Bl in the San Fernando Valley. Customer Journey This short video depicts an example of a customer journey on Alternative 4, as compared to the current transit trip to show the potential time savings with the project. Alternative 5 Heavy rail with underground alignment including below Sepulveda Bl in the San Fernando Valley. Customer Journey This short video depicts an example of a customer journey on Alternative 5, as compared to the current transit trip to show the potential time savings with the project. Alternative 6 Driver-operated heavy rail with underground alignment including below Van Nuys Bl in the San Fernando Valley and southern terminus station on Bundy Dr. Customer Journey This short video depicts an example of a customer journey on Alternative 6, as compared to the current transit trip to show the potential time savings with the project. No Project Alternative Under the No Project Alternative, Metro Line 761 would continue to serve as the primary transit option through the Sepulveda Pass, with improved peak-period headways of 10 minutes in the peak direction and 15 minutes in the other direction. Metro Line 761 would operate between the Metro E Line Expo/Sepulveda Station and the Metro G Line Van Nuys Station to connect with the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Line. The analysis of all project alternatives in the DEIR, including the No Project Alternative, considers as future background projects all existing and under-construction highway and transit services and facilities, as well as transit and highway projects included in the Measure R Expenditure Plan, the Measure M Expenditure Plan, the Southern California Association of Governments Connect SoCal, 2020-2045 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy, and the Federal Transportation Improvement Program, with the exception of the Project.
In the link you can see the different proposed alternatives for what metro is thinking of implementing to get a connection from the San Fernando Valley and the Westide.
My understanding is that there is only a bus line that connects the two, so the current alternative method of travel to a bus is taking the very congested 405 fwy.
