Yep, imports are an investment from importers/capitalists perspective. And under capitalism, investments are done with expectation of profit.
Really complex ideas here, really have to have some sympathy for Trump. Who could’ve thought the economy doesn’t like it when you just flip the tables and give everyone a middle finger?
