Karl Marx, born on this day in 1818, was a foundational political theorist and journalist associated with the philosophy of Marxism.
Among Marx’s best-known texts are the “The Communist Manifesto” and the three-volume “Das Kapital”, in which he set out to define and explain the behavior of the capitalist mode of production.
Marx’s political and philosophical thought have had enormous influence on subsequent intellectual, economic and political history, and his name has been used as an adjective, a noun, and a school of social theory.
Marx’s critical theories about society, economics and politics - collectively understood as Marxism - hold that human societies develop through class conflict. In capitalism, this manifests itself in the conflict between the ruling classes (known as the bourgeoisie) that control the means of production, and the working classes (known as the proletariat) that enable these means by selling their labor power in return for wages.
Employing a critical approach known as historical materialism, Marx concluded that, like previous socio-economic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system known as socialism.

So there’s this girl I meet every now and then at parties of our one common friend and she hit on me on like 5 different occasions, up to the point of literally trying to kiss me. And it’s not like I’m not interested in her, but because we only meet at parties where there’s really loud music, my autism renders me basically non-functional in these environments. I already don’t know how to act in this situation, but add loud background noise to the equation and I get overwhelmed and escape.
Well now I’m contemplating texting her so we can maybe meet somewhere where there isn’t loud noises blaring the entire time, but for some reason my incredible insecurity when it comes to anything romantic is still telling me she’s probably not actually interested in me and there’s no point in trying. It’s absurd. A girl can literally try to shove her tongue in my mouth and a part of me will still think “she probably didn’t mean it”.
I like to make things into bite size pieces. You’re not doing something romantic, you just text “I want to get to know you better.” Maybe you become people who share memes with each other and nothing comes of it. Maybe you go to parties together as friends and she knows how to lessen the sensory overload. You don’t know, you’re not clairvoyant. You’re just optimistic enough to know good things could happen from knowing her better because you enjoy her presence.
Even if she does jump out the gate towards you over her food, you might be into it, might not. You don’t know. But finding out could be exciting in and if itself.
Just, at its core, you’re not texting her going “I’ve decided to drop everything to dedicate myself to you.” You’re going “hey, do you wanna fuck around and find out a lil bit?”
Do it! Or if it feels less anxiety inducing if there’s a party coming up see if she wants to meet up and get a drink and then go together??
