Hemmer, who has flown drones over Musk’s house looking for ordinance violations

Wait. If you can fly a drone over Musk’s house, you could definitely kill him. I assumed his security would shoot down any drones flying overhead.

    • Texas is well fucked, but pretty sure discharging a firearm in city limits is something they get after people for there. further, firing upon an aerial vehicle while aloft is also a federal offense even if it is over private property, because the exclusive use of private property does not extend above a certain range into the air.

apparently it’s not just a fine, either, it’s multiple years in prison (Title 18 US Code 32 of the 1984 Aircraft Sabotage Act).

and yeah, he’s a billionaire, but one couldn’t be sure it wouldn’t be recording directly to some other device and be used in evidence, making it open and shut in whoever pulled the trigger.

a lot of the rules around drones are hilarious and crazy. like yeah, you can get in trouble for spying on someone with a drone, but if they try to jam or knock the drone out of the air above a certain height, they are fucked.
