Periodic reminder that all these rich suburbs are predicated on abundant fossil fuels for heating and cooling, running electricity and water to them is often financially unsustainable, they’re car-dependent due to being miles and miles away from business and entertainment districts, and to top it all off, there are just a few choke points to enter their sprawling neighborhoods. A regular Texas mishap (2 inches of snow, a brownout, a car accident in a certain place, or a culvert collapsing) could render these entire tracts entirely unliveable.
