In new reports sent to United Nations treaty monitoring bodies, the Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) responds to the Chinese governmentâs rejection of key human rights recommendations made by UN experts. CHRD highlights Beijingâs resistance to genuine cooperation with the UN to improve human rights, and its ongoing threats to human rights defenders trying to engage UN human rights mechanisms.
âThe Chinese government refuses to fulfill basic obligations set out under the international human rights treaties it voluntarily joined,â said Sophie Richardson, Co-Executive Director at CHRD. âAt the same time, it harasses, intimidates, and detains human rights defenders from China when they try to work with these bodies.â
Beijing has used the treaty body review process to deflect international scrutiny of its human rights violations. It has obstructed the committeesâ engagement with civil society, and failed to implement these expertsâ constructive recommendations on improving implementation of the international treaties.

CHRDâs analysis shows that the Chinese government has made no progress toward implementing CESCRâs recommendations. Chinese authorities have not adopted comprehensive anti-discrimination measures in law and practice. Instead, the government permits and exacerbates discrimination against women, rural migrants, persons with disabilities, and LGBTIQ+ individuals. The authorities have not acknowledged human rights violations in the Uyghur region, and they have not abolished the coerced residential (boarding) school system imposed on Tibetan children.

âWhile ignoring UN reviews, Beijing is whitewashing its record by hosting high-profile international gatherings on womenâs and socio-economic rights,â Richardson said. âWill states attending Beijingâs 2025 Global Summit of Women repeat state propaganda, or will they stand with activists challenging abuses and discrimination?â

A literal Pavlovian! For whom Muslims in Xinjiang presumably donât count because their oppressors arenât âwhiteâ. What a world.
Lately I have been watching a lot of videos about China on youtube. I have seen at least a half a dozen western tourists who have traveled to xinjiang one that lives there, and one american woman who is marrying an uyghur man from there. Some of those travel vlog people have historically been very anti china and tried to paint their china visit in the most negative way possible.
In all of that footage I have seen absolutely no oppression of uyghurs, the people they talk to seem to be just fine. They are going about their own lives like any ordinary people, run their own businesses, tend to their own farms etc. All the signs are in both chinese and uyghur, people are speaking uyghur in their daily interactions with each other, etc.
I think you have to. be batshit crazy to claim that xinjiang is anything like gaza.
I would suggest that you and anybody else reading this go on youtube and find those videos. There are tons of them. See for yourself.

These are propaganda videos by the CCP. There is strong evidence from multiple independent sources on the repression of Uyghurs and other minorities by the Chinese party-state (some of the sources can be found in this thread). Your unfounded claims and blatant whataboutism discredits you entirely.

No they are not. They are videos by people who have traveled all around the world for many years. People like Bald and Bankrupt or Ken Abroad for example.

As it happens I have been to Xinjiang myself, I was there last August. Yes, thatâs an anecdote - just like your random vloggers are anecdotes. If you want to make an informed opinion of any subject, you need to find out what serious sources are saying - academics, professional reporters, people who compile statistics for governments, etc. In this particular case, rando tourists are obviously not going to give you an accurate impression of what happens in Xinjiang, the de-facto colony of a literal police state. Anyway, itâs irritating to be wasting my time explaining all this so thatâs all I have to say here.
Great Iâll take the anecdote of an anonymous person on the internet and put it in this pile and Iâll put the actual hours and hours of video by people who are not anonymous and judge each pile accordingly.
Maybe if you want to sway me you can cite me these academics and professional reporters who claim xinjiang is as bad as gaza.
