Fascists don’t understand that normal people deploy humor to make other people feel safe, welcome and connected to others around them.

When the particular fascist human shitstain in question, JD Vance, sees someone making a joke, they observe that other people like that person more and react positively, so JD Vance tries to make a joke too so that people will actually like him (lol sorry vice president of the U.S. isn’t enough to make you popular, everyone still thinks you are a loser JD :) ).

Thankfully when JD does this he just tells on himself that he doesn’t understand even fundamental aspects of humor and how twisting it for the aim of cruelty and violence will make you a permanently unfunny person in the eyes of everyone that matters.

There is no such thing as a funny fascist, because when you watch them tell jokes it quickly becomes apparent it isn’t about creative joy it is about lazy hate.

What’s most telling here is the face that Trump makes when JD makes this statement. Trump is not exactly a good guy, but at least has some sense of his audience. Even he knows that wasn’t the right time to bring that up.

I don’t think his intention is making a joke, people like him are often charismatic and likeable and they tend to understand what actually is a joke. Calling something a joke is more like the verbal version of crossing your fingers behind your back when you make a promise.

We aren’t talking about Bill Clinton or George W Bush here, show me a single clip of J.D. Vance being charismatic and I will eat my hat.

J.D. Vance desperately craves validation like Musk or any of these other fascist losers, and this drives him to make jokes because he wants people to like him but it just doesn’t work for J.D. Vance, maybe not as catastrophically as it doesn’t work for Elon Musk, but they are both comedic and charismatic train wrecks.

Proving my point or seeing you eat your hat is not worth spending my time and peace of mind looking at Vance hoping to see him act charismatic. You’re right he is much more comparable to Musk than to Bush or Clinton as well. But them calling their words jokes is a (at least sometimes) a way, acting as if they aren’t serious about their plans.

You are misunderstanding my point if you think I am suggesting these people are only making jokes, my point is they don’t understand to emplace a real threat inside or anywhere near a joke irradiates the landscape of joy and forecloses the possibility of real comedy, ESPECIALLY when you are punching down at vulnerable groups using stereotypes and cheap digs to get laughs. These people can’t be funny, because they want to hurt people and they use jokes to tip toe around bragging about it in public.

I think we agree in general, except I don’t think they always believe they are being funny - but even know it isn’t to some people. I could make a joke about a black man or a Jew in a bar, but if I tell that joke to a black man or a Jew the intent is no longer to be funny even though I might still think it is a great joke. It is like an insult with a baked in excuse. These men are evil and not the brightest, they do stupid things; but they are not ignorant fools and I don’t think they are blind to the harm they do - I think they know how hurtful their ‘jokes’ are and like harming these people. It’s not just trying to be funny while lacking a sense of humour.
