    Ultima Online was fuckin sick. One thing I thought was really cool (introduced kinda late in the game) is you could actually buy a plot of land in the open world and build a house/castle - I haven’t seen that replicated since. And similarly you could have your own ship to sail the seas and the ocean content was pretty cool.

      One thing that always stuck with me about UO that I can’t say anyone else did the same way. Camping to log out. I guess because it was probably the third thing you learned as a newbie (one being how to chop wood, second to make a fire so you could camp). There were the inns of course, but still you were doing the action of sleeping in a bed in order to go to the other world (log out). Other games have similar tactics like sitting or whatever, but UO felt like you were preparing for the shift back to RL.

      I didn’t stay for the later years, EverQuest caught my attention, but UO was the first.
