Second, companies in this increasingly autocratic and hostile US control every major digital platform that Europeans use to debate and share news, with the exception of TikTok, which is Chinese. Even Europe’s news organisations rely on Google and other US advertising technology companies for online revenue. Trump can humiliate or cripple the oligarchs who control these companies.
I’m aware of that framing.
Another narrative is that Russia finally came to the defense of the DPR and LPR breakaway states, which sought to escape their ethnic cleansing[1] at the hands of Kiev’s Maidan regime, after Putin mistakenly[2] [3] trusted the West to act in good faith towards seeking a peaceful resolution.
One could frame that war as having ended in 2023, when Russian troops took control of the Donbass. Since then, the troops have remained simply to defend the now-annexed territory from the invading Ukrainian forces, which are increasingly composed of untrained and unfit conscripts forced at gunpoint by fascist militias[4] into NATO’s proxy war.
Such is the power of narrative control.
