[…]

a group of 150 or so ARAS members, who had gathered from all over greece for this purpose, came early in the morning to the campus under the direction of their much older leader. they were coordinated, wearing armor under their matching jackets, helmets, and carrying clubs. as one of them began filming, the ARAS guys formed a tight linked-arm cordon around the 30 or so anarchists, kettling them, and began loudly (falsely) accusing the anarchists of having knives, molotovs, etc, to make sure the other gathered leftists around the campus could hear, and shouting “you will not squat.”

this is already bizarre behavior, uncharacteristic behavior, and to say the least inappropriate. then, the leader of ARAS shouted “helmets,” and the ARAS troops donned their protective helmets and mounted their attack on the unprepared and unarmed anarchist students.

at different times over the years here, anarchists and communists have clashed in the streets or at parties. i am on the anarchist side but i don’t like the “sports team” mindset some have about such things. every time it is a disgrace that it happens, but even according to those who’ve witnessed some of the worst, it has never been as vicious, one-sided and prolonged as happened this morning. sometimes the “clash” is a shoving match-- during a demonstration turned riot, some anarchists are fleeing a charging line of police and the communists link arms to block their way. then the communists stand back and let the police do beatings on the anarchists. this has not happened recently but used to be more common.

MLs never understand why Greek anarchists have such visceral reaction against tankies. It’s a rough lesson learned many times.

It has nothing to do with a “sports team” mindset when authoritarian communist organize to brutally attack anarchists in a militarized fashion. Fuck all Maoists and Tankies and their dogmatism and orthodoxies.

No, Maoists are a different line of thinking that is inspired and influenced from Marxist-Leninism, which was a corruption of Marxism.

The point still stands, Maoists and Anarchists have different solutions to the same goal, and one is willing to bully and remove the other even before the revolution has started, let alone finished. And it’s not anarchists.

I have mild respect for Mao in parts, but Maoists and MLs are not the same. They will however gladly do anything to the people questioning the need of a transition state.

Edit: Also it’s rather telling that in the article about how Maoists are literally seriously injuring anarchists, your only issue is “erm actually, Maoists aren’t MLs, they’re MLMs” instead of anything meaningful, let alone a “hey that sucks, I don’t like that they’re hurting comrades.”

The anarchists were just going to be tabling to commemorate the anniversary of the polytekneio protest to the military junta of the 70s and then these authcommies armored up and beat them with clubs until they were concussed, unconscious, bloody, and needing stitches? While shouting “you will not squat?” What the fuck

Nah, the authoritarians are acting like authoritarians? Unheard of. Next you’ll tell me they’ll do ideological purges, which is just “pledge your loyalty to our state and hope the next guy doesn’t kick you out.”

More like “worse than a coke is a mountain dew”

Both are completely different (two separate flavors/ideologies) but fundamentally the same (sugary soft drink/authoritarian ideology)

But this is just me being pedantic.

    Nothing new under the sun.

I really wish more anarchists and lib left types in general understood that tankies are their enemy, instead of amplifying a lot of their more idiotic narratives. A lot of people do it without even realizing it, which is why I think anarchist spaces need to be extremely aggressive about keeping out red fash.

Apparently, they aren’t Maoists but “Althusserian” - influenced by Louis Althusser, some French Marxist brainiac who murdered his own wife.

Being a Marxist-Lenninist or Maoist is one thing - but basing your politics on that of these almost universally creepy French academics from the 60s is downright cartoonish IMO.

  • I have a feeling this will be very contentious and since I’m not exactly informed nor very connected to the politics in Greece, I’m just going to look at the comments 24h from now lol to see what others think
