Goddamn, that’s a lot of fucking words to say “yeah, capitalism leads to wealth concentration, but you can counter that with systems designed around that”. Except, ya know, regulatory capture happens too. Eventually, all forms of capitalism end up at fascism because of that.

Authoritarianism <> fascism. Fascism is a specific flavor of Authoritarianism that fits extremely well on the tail-end of late stage capitalism. Because it’s trigger is often “wealth disparity has gotten so bad that the only way to fix our economic woes is to tackle that first” and then that’s when capitalists pull out the fascist populism card.

It’s actually relatively few words for your average comment on this topic. If people hadn’t democratically voted for fascist populism in the few cases where it has occurred, then it wouldn’t have happened. It’s a bit late in the game to be saying hopefully people learn from the mistakes of the past, but even if we assume your assertion that all forms of capitalism eventually lead to an authoritative state, without any reasoning and very little evidence, there is literally no alternative system. There will always be markets and entrepreneurs.

I think you gotta steel man the argument to make progress. They may have used some hyperbole, but they didn’t walk themselves into a corner like you’re saying. Not if you interpret in good faith IMO.
