President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order that blocks states from enforcing their own regulations around artificial intelligence and instead aims to create a “single national framework” for AI.
Bad headline. This order means nothing. Executive orders are weaker than state laws. That’s it, the end.
If he wants to pass a federal law, then he can preempt the states. Federal law usually trumps state law. Until then, he can write the order and then nobody will do anything with it, and if federal lawyers try to do something with it then they will be laughed out of court.
The law is backed by the glorious leader being unhinged enough to send his little private army of racists to kidnap and torture anyone who goes against him. He doesn’t even need to do that, the threat is good enough so nobody will dare. Newsom maybe, but he has his own technoologarchs to consider
