typically when there are popular games i cant get into, i still get why people like them. but i tried this game out and made it maybe 20 mins. granted im not a fan of turn based battles, i can get into turn based games if the rest of the story is good
but all i saw in my few mins of playing was some lame ass british people (even worse, the JRPG version of british people) and then movement that literally felt like an unreal engine asset flip. you dont feel connected to the world at all and the design of the world doesnt feel like its made for that movement system. after feeling the movement in the game and then doing the battle tutorial, i thought “this is not for me” and uninstalled it
i feel like the biggest fucking idiot on earth tho. im the only person who cant get into this game.
can those of you who enjoy it explain to me what’s good about it?
does the movement feel less janky as you get used to it? it just felt terrible to me. no weight to your character or anything
The English voice cast was one of their marketing points, but the third time I heard Daredevil say “merde” I switched the voice track to French.
The combat is pretty dull at first because your options are limited, but once you make it out of Lumiere and get your second party member, it gets much more complex and layered. Then they add in the equivalent of the materia system and it gets incredibly fun to try to make broken builds.
The movement does suck, as it does in most turn-based RPGs, but the devs lampshaded it later with impossible (optional) platforming challenges.
Anyway the story is great, but you really have to get out of Lumiere first.
But hey if you don’t want to, you ain’t gotta.
