typically when there are popular games i cant get into, i still get why people like them. but i tried this game out and made it maybe 20 mins. granted im not a fan of turn based battles, i can get into turn based games if the rest of the story is good
but all i saw in my few mins of playing was some lame ass british people (even worse, the JRPG version of british people) and then movement that literally felt like an unreal engine asset flip. you dont feel connected to the world at all and the design of the world doesnt feel like its made for that movement system. after feeling the movement in the game and then doing the battle tutorial, i thought “this is not for me” and uninstalled it
i feel like the biggest fucking idiot on earth tho. im the only person who cant get into this game.
can those of you who enjoy it explain to me what’s good about it?
does the movement feel less janky as you get used to it? it just felt terrible to me. no weight to your character or anything
i’ve just been playing it in french with subtitles so i didn’t even know they were british lol. for me i genuinely think the story is intriguing and i like the serious tone throughout the game so far (even with some lighthearted moments it doesn’t fall into that sarcasm and irony poisoned marvel-esque tone which i’m tired of). the characters feel very grounded in their conditions and feel the emotions that come with being in their fucked up situation.
it gets better as you play, i wasn’t a huge fan of the introduction but at the point i’m at now i just love it. there’s a lot of attention to detail, cool monster and environmental designs, amazing music, and lots of moments with characters to really ground yourself with them in the world as you journey.
i don’t mind turn based battles but i’ve played worse ones that get way too repetitive, the different mechanics for each character and battle have been keeping it interesting so things don’t become too samey. i do get why it may not be your thing though, i wish it was less lightweight with the movement too. when you get your first companion you can switch to them when exploring and i sort of main them cause they float when “running” so the lightweight feel makes more sense and feels nice.
definitely don’t feel like you gotta force yourself to play something you don’t enjoy but yeah that’s why i like it
