Hello, I have a rather mundane question, but I can’t seem to find a clear answer online. Suppose I’m cycling or running in the UK and I accidentally knock someone over, causing them injury or disability. What type of insurance would cover my liability in such a case?
In some other European countries, home insurance covers civil liability, but this doesn’t appear to be the case in the UK with standard home contents insurance.

Thank you for your insight and for the link
My family told me over Christmas about a case in France where a person, while running, knocked over a pedestrian, causing them a disability and loss of earnings. Because the person at fault did not have personal liability insurance, they were required to compensate the injured party for their lost income over several years.
From what I’ve read, this seems to stem from a cultural difference. In France, it’s common to have this type of insurance, so people are more likely to pursue a claim.
