The government’s signalled a potential u-turn on pub rates — but nothing’s confirmed yet. Pubs still need your support. Find your local. See what they’re up against. Buy a pint.
One nearish me closed overnight after the announcement of the higher tax. Just decided it wasn’t viable.
Marked as “absolutely fucked” on that map to be fair.
My local is in the “somehow fine” category, but it’s tax before the change is way higher than the tax for the one that closed after the change?
It’s just measuring amount of change in rateable value, some properties may have only small increases but many will have larger increases, hence the “fine” to “fucked” scale.
The one that closed may have been making a lot less money than the one that’s still open but this is a fixed cost not related to turnover so if you make small amounts and turned a small profit, even a small increase in fixed costs can put you under.
Excellent tool. Shame it doesn’t have anything on Scottish pubs.
Most of the ones around my parents digs are fucked.
Somehow the nearest (and worst) pub is fine.
