That was a really strong start to the episode with the whole cups mystery. Nice subtle thing of Mel’s bin being full of cups. And you know it’s a fantasy world when the bin men accept unbagged rubbish!
Also very well done was the 1950’s vibe of John and Belinda’s furniture especially in the kitchen. Bel being a stay-at-home wife, the homophobia of the co-worker, the ignoring disabled / homeless people. Excellent world-building for a right wing fantasy.
I don’t like the more mythology / fantasy direction of the new series but still a really enjoyable episode. I feel like “the Rani” would have been more impactful if I’d watched classic Who though…
