Netflix agreed to change its $83 billion deal to buy Warner Bros. Discovery's studios and HBO Max business to all-cash, aimed at thwarting Paramount Skydance's rival takeover bid.
It’s the lesser of two evil. But can’t say I am rooting for Netflix (despite the gains to my very small stock position because of the deal).
Paramount/Larry Ellison would use WB for their ideological goals, which would be terrible.
Netflix is a threat to cinema culture and maybe to quality, if they change it to be based more on viewership numbers rather than quality. Also it is more concentration.
I wish WB would stay independent. I know they have a ton of debt from the at&t spinoff, but I think they’d have been able to survive long-term and also been big enough to compete with other streaming services.
Really sad to see them absorbed, especially after the year they had.
