The new Carney government should develop cloud-agnostic services; embrace open-source software; and support the development of a domestic digital industry
As soon as Trump uttered 51st state, I changed my domain and I changed the host. With this new host I also get my own email addresses. I could change all of my Apple hidemy emails to a .ca domain, I will admit that sure it is a pseudo random email address at my personal domain and the ad market can still track me but I will make it as hard as I can.
Then I use a pihole system to block ads, sure I was doing this before the 51st state stuff but it is more important now as most of the ad market is owned by Google. Wish there was an alternative to youtube though. I am wanting to setup a pi as an alternative to my AppleTV and block youtube ads.
I have cancelled all of my streaming subscriptions and started a gem account. Sure I can watch all of the shows ad free but the occasional time I want to watch the news it is worth the $5 or $6. I am a huge Star Wars fan so it hurt not having a Disney+ subscription for Andor, but I got back into sailing the high C’s. I had worked on a bash script to download the show after each episode, by the end of the series I had it polished and working but figured that was not going to work for all future shows so I broke and just installed the arr apps to use along with jacket to track my shows and movies and download them once they are released.
I use Unwatched to get around youtube ads, I have an iPad so I do not know much about android but I believe you can install plugins for your browser. I want to find an app for my AppleTV that works with blocking youtube ads and makes my Jellyfin server work better on it.
I have my home lab based on raspberry pi’s, and use pihole to block ads on the internet.
I want to change one of my pi’s to my media server attached to my TV rather than sitting in my home lab but that would mean I should find a remote and install a new OS. I have one of my pi’s running a wireguard VPN so that I can use my pihole away from home.
I use Jacket for my torrent searching stuff but I guess there is prolawarr, I use transmission for my download app. Then I use sonarr and radarr for my Movie and TV show scheduler (they automatically find the torrents after the show airs or the movie is released in theatres). I use Jellyfin for my media server but I am seriously considering moving to plex so that I can use my AppleTV the best Jellyfin app wants money. I can use Jellyfin just fine on my iPad or iPhone. Rather than sorting all my media into plex I may look for a new app on the AppleTV? You can use Lidarr for music as well, I have not used it however but it is installed on my pi. I have not installed or used readarr for books, I do not use and have no plans on using whisparr for adult content.
All the arr apps can be found at https://wiki.servarr.com/ I am sure these apps can be installed on different OS’s like windows or Mac OS but I use raspberry pi OS, (a fork of Debian)
First. We should be using the .ca domain space more instead of the other US owned TLDs.
I’m doing my part.

Are there any resources you’d recommend if one were to whish to get into sailing?
