Police in the United Kingdom say a man has been detained after a vehicle struck several people on Water Street who were on the street celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League win.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said they had detained a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area in connection with the incident.

My god. The inanity of this. Journalists are so conditioned to blame pedestrians for their own murders, that they’ll even use it to soften terrorism.

I think the wording is more down to not knowing the circumstances at this time. Obviously people would be in the street celebrating, but it’s not been confirmed if this was deliberate or some sort of medical episode. Expect the language to change when this becomes clear.

The point is that “car drives into pedestrians” and “a vehicle struck several people” completely ignores the driver operating the vehicle.

“We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre,” a police spokesperson said.

I think it’s so they don’t focus on the attacker, because the public goes nuts after these things.
