US authorities have turned to Europe for help with the country’s severe egg shortage. The shortfall is due to bird flu, which has plagued the United States for several years.

The Finnish Poultry Association says it has been contacted about exporting eggs to the US. The organisation’s executive director, Veera Lehtilä, told Yle on Saturday that exporting eggs does not seem to be possible at the moment because no market access negotiations have been held with US authorities. This can be a drawn-out process involving extensive inspections and studies.

Oh, fun fact also, conservatives made it illegal to own chickens in my city.

How the fuck is this possible. Can they really control what the fuck you do in your garden?

Hahaha, no I get that! I was trying to ask what exactly about owning chickens is illegal. Is it a noise thing, smell? Risk of disease? Are ducks illegal?

          Do they just hate chickens?

              That’s terrible… I’m so sorry. Hopefully people can find a workaround or something… I don’t know…

A lot of people say stuff along the lines of “you can have chickens here as long as you get along with your neighbors”, implying that they won’t call the police/city over it, but unfortunately I live next to an old cranky shithead that thinks Trump is a god. He’s threatened to call the city on us for having slightly long grass, he’ll definitely do it over chickens.

If I had the money I would look into opening something small nearby that isn’t under residential zoning and start raising some, but it’s WAY beyond my means.

Is pretty common here. Neighborhoods and towns enact these rules to protect property values, which are probably the most sacred cow of American politics.
