For years, subsidizing gasoline for consumers has been a major drag on Ethiopia’s budget, costing the state billions of dollars over the past decade.

I wish every country realized how much of an absolute scam this is. Fossil fuel subsides are governments literally paying to have the environment destroyed by climate change, but at the same time just removing them would create havoc in product costs. More reason to replace fossil fuels as fast as possible.
