This is one of the better Tintin adventures. When I read it as a kid I’d been to South America a couple times so it was interesting to read the cartoon take on it. We were there once and my aunt was looking at a llama when it turned and “raspberried” at her (i.e. made a spurting sound, I don’t think it actually spit water.) This was hilarious of course and unfortunately we didn’t get a picture, but it reminded me of this panel.
Zoriño’s (sp?) garment and his chullo hat are classic Peruvian, and even still worn today in some areas, I believe. That, and the incredible amount of detail Hergé put in to the Incan costumes are pretty indicative of how far he went down various cultural rabbit holes to capture authenticity. But also part of the reason he burned out a couple times, I understand.
Thanks for these! If I could subscribe to TinTin Tuesdays I would :p
