    Explanation: “Stonewall” Jackson, often considered to be one of Lee’s most competent officers, was shot by his own men when returning from a recon on Union lines. He correctly identified himself to the pickets, but their commander, suspecting a ruse, ordered his troops to fire anyway, killing Jackson.
