I have literally never felt the impact of slower RAM speed and I’ve been building PC’s for 30+ years. In every case, adding more was a boost, even if it wasn’t “needed”. Memory timings make a tiny difference to FPS in a game, or might slightly slow down rendering by a tiny fraction, but the increased performance of reduced swapping and other improvements it brings will definitely help out.

I tried buying a box of borax for some ant control, but accidentally ordered a case. So I toss some in to every load or laundry these days and it’s really helped my results. I swear colors are brighter and the scent is fresher.

Best music discovery I’ve had was a thread on the something awful forums maybe 2 decades ago. People would post their favorites or ones they wanted similar artists to, and folks would chime in with suggestions. I discovered so much music in that thread, stuff that has become my core favorites. I learned about Chromeo in that thread (back when Needy Girl was new) and they have been in my top 5 or 10 ever since.

I do enjoy the Apple Music suggestions, but finding new is so much slower and more hit or miss.

There should be a site for community driven music suggestions similar to that old thread. Especially nowadays when so much is independent and obscure.4

I’d quit my job, sell my house, get a box in the middle of nowhere and work at a gas station the rest of my life. I’ve got kids though, and a wife, they are more important than me so my mental health gets ignored for now. Maybe once these kids are grown…

What drives me up a fucking wall these days is how people will use AI to make a more “professional” message, then due to it’s verbosity it needs an AI to summarize on the receiving end.

Sure seems like it. Not like these same algorithmic salary calculations will be used for the C-Suite.

Yet more evidence for my “never trust a self described libertarian” stance. Hasn’t failed me yet.

We are not facing skynet, but the techbros, media and government all want us to think so.

They did not “escape”, they were able to find security holes in pootly protected environments that they had access to. They performed the same security tests against live sites online, which also had security flaws. They did not spread, or escape, nor are they hiding on servers anywhere like in the movies. They simply performed a remote exploit after using a local one to get internet access.

These things are dangerous, but as a weapon in people’s hands. They still have off buttons, we still have all the control. But the narrative makes it feel like an inevitability, we’ve all watched too much sci-fi and aren’t using critical thinking skills.

I felt the same way until my wife talked me into one. We use it almost every day now (it’s great for veggies, so much faster than my convection oven). I bought a cheapish one and am now regretting it since it’s broken and become uncleanably messy. So this is a well timed thread, since I’m looking for a new one.

I’m convinced this is deliberate. We are not facing a skynet situation, AI is not going rogue. This is shitty security during user initiated testing that they did not fully understand.

They want us to think that AGI is around the corner and so publicizing these hacks is doing that work in the uninformed public’s mind. I’ve had to explain to several people the reality of these attacks, but even now, watching the news, they are trying to scare us with made up stories of out of control AI.

Yeah, I see so much sandblasted brick these days from removing paint. I mean, it does look better than paint, but it’s so worn looking. Painting bricks is just a horrible idea.

You may be right, I’ve been pretty much a hermit since Covid. I haven’t been to a bar in like 6 years, that’s where I’d normally see it. The car I bought last year had it on in the lobby though…
