  • I have seen that play out almost in real time with a friend’s girlfriend. He has money, but he grew up poor. She has no money of her own, doesn’t work, doesn’t contribute in any way to society. She also comes from poor background. And yet ever since she’s gotten cozy with his money—getting clothes, new laptops, phones, jewelry, traveling—she started sounding like a removed. Shitting on other working class people while riding on the money she did not earn. It’s absolutely wild to me.

  • Haha, that’s the former head of my department. They asked for a good raise (after building the infrastructure from ground up), the company said nah, so they left for a better position and much more money than what the current dept. head is making. The company now pays for their consulting, and the management still hasn’t learned their lesson, because they’re still stingy with the raises.

  • Skirting around Elon being a Nazi to make the issue with Grok look all the more mysterious is what made me roll my eyes. “Nobody knows how it happened”, “Elon is just confused, surely his intentions are pure!”. My man, do I have a bridge to sell you.

All these videos somehow miss—what I believe to be—the actual threats of LLMs. And that’s large scale voter manipulation and environmental impact. But it’s always the Skynet type clickbait of “AI” dooming. Oh yeah, wait. It’s because it’s more shocking and drives engagement, since the average person doesn’t seem to care about politics and climate change.

  • Something that I don’t see mentioned a lot outside of fandom, even though apparently the show was quite big after Netflix picked it up. Lucifer arguably started going downhill in S3, mostly because Fox execs wanted to turn it into a soap opera. Which of course failed, so they dropped the show altogether, only for Netflix to “save” it.

I put that in quotation marks because I kind of wish they just let the show die at the cliffhanger instead of letting the narcs in charge run it into ground. Narcs being the two lapsed Catholic showrunners. The show was still salvageable by the end of S5, but S6 retroactively destroyed everything, making it unwatchable for half of the fandom, while the other half was vaping copium.

I’m not going to write the synopsis, because fuck that burning cesspit, but these are some of the issues with it:

    • abuse apologia and perpetuation of generational trauma “for the greater good” in a universe with an omni-potent god
    • uncontested sentiment that bio children are worth more than adopted/step-children
    • sex shaming
    • rampant misogyny
    • glorification of suffering
    • hamfisted tragic ending clumsily masked with a “bittersweet” wrapping
    • plus many more very Christian sentiments that nobody asked for (except for the part of the fandom that can’t separate their religion from a TV show).

I have never watched GoT, so I’m not a good judge on this, but not a negligible part of the fandom claimed the Lucifer season/finale was worse. So there’s that.

  • Isn’t the second sentence incorrect? You can force local account creation by running oobe\bypassnro to bypass the internet connection requirement which lets you create a local account instead. And at least on the Pro(?) version it can be bypassed by choosing the Domain account option even if the PC won’t be joined to any domain. It just creates a local account. I have to deal with Win 11 installations as part of my job and this is the way I’ve been doing it.

All this is not to defend M$’ attempt to force this bullshit on the users. I’m a Linux user and steer clear of M$ products whenever and wherever I can. Just wanted to point out an M$ account isn’t necessary to setup Win 11. (Unless these workarounds are only possible in the Pro version?)

  • I sometimes use ChatGPT when I’m stuck troubleshooting an issue. I had to do exactly this because it became extremely annoying when I corrected it for giving me incorrect information and it would still be “sucking up” to me with “Nice catch!” and “You’re absolutely right!”. The fact that an average person doesn’t find that creepy, unflattering and/or annoying is the real scary part.

  • I can’t speak for low battery, but I can for different brands of calcs.

Back in high school majority of students had this specific model, and I had a different one. My entire answer to a question on an exam was correct, but my calculator somehow calculated different decimals to the ones from the popular model. And it was like 4th, 5th decimal or something. The asshole teacher took all of my points away on that. Meanwhile, one of her fave students forgot a very important part of the formula which made the calculation completely wrong and the teacher still gave them half the points for it. God, I hated school, lol.
