Extending human ethics toward non-humans is a questionable endeavor at best. That being said, I personally don’t like extra unnecessary suffering, which is why I prefer eating humanely raised and killed animals.

Taking the minimization of suffering to its logical conclusion, however, animals suffer in the wild without human intervention, so the most humane thing to do would be to exterminate them all. This would prevent any future suffering entirely.

Surely you see a problem with such a utilitarian approach?

Most other furbearers will be infected with some sort of disease, parasite, bot fly larvae, etc. so they generally aren’t eaten

From first hand experience, groundhog tastes fucking amazing. Literally #2 spot on my personal list of favorite meats, right after minke whale. Just make sure it’s cooked well done so you don’t risk getting parasites. And if eaten, it’s not just payback for destroying my garden, I’m actually getting some of those garden nutrients back.

Instead of an evaporative cooling tower, a heat exchanger with a ground loop could work.

That’s why I prefer New Zealand or Australian lamb. Just lamb living their best lamb lives out on pastures.
