I would settle for 56 cable channels, FM Radio, and a Sega Genesis levels of stimulation.
Now I’ve gotta have 3 screens simultaneously (phone, laptop, and TV) and a 20 oz Red Bull to feel anything

31·2 天前Gen X chose to be the “I’m not really into politics” generation. As if electing our leaders was a spectator sport we could just not participate in. And then we all claimed to be too cool for political parties when we started noticing the world was really going to shit. Which is how we got centrists.
I know because that was me.

2·2 天前I’m a little jealous to be honest. I can barely talk to my dad anymore. He swallowed the propaganda hook, line, and sinker. Everything he says is word for word from cable news or facebook.

15·2 天前Both my boomer parents were hippies. My Mom literally lived in a commune for some time in her early 20s. She voted for the T-Dog in 2016 because she wanted to see real change.
I used to chuckle when I was a kid the way my Dad would look at me and roll his eyes when my grandparents would talk about politics and religion. My Dad loves his MAGA hats now. And wonders why his grandchildren don’t want to be around him.
My sample size of 2 says otherwise!

37·2 天前Every single generation in the past 100 years has said the same thing. “My generation will fix it when we’re in charge”.
The God Damn boomers were the hippies from the 60s. What the fuck happened to peace and love?
My generation (Gen X), my goodness, we could see through all the bullshit. We’re the original centrists.
Every single one of my children’s Gen Z friends are all so woke they never sleep.
Turns out every generation is full of selfish shortsighted dumbasses just like the one before it. Just like “The Greatest Generation”. Just like the boomers. Just like Gen X.
Faith in humanity…fading

memes@lemmy.world•The robot they're trying to make vs the robot the people want
1·5 天前Actually you can 100% have a permanent home for 8 dishes, 8 bowls, 8 glasses, 8 coffee cups, and 8 forks/knives/spoons in the dishwasher and just leave them there. Just put the ones you used that day back in their place and turn the dishwasher on when you go to bed.

101·5 天前Right? Dancing humans and fighting humans and stripping humans are already awesome.
I want a sink full of dirty dishes to turn in to a cabinet full of clean dishes, and a laundry basket full of dirty clothes to turn into a drawer full of clean, folded clothes.
Why is humanity even bothering anymore? Nobody asked for a robot that writes novels and paints. Just shut it all down. Fuck this.

323·5 天前Oh sweet baby jesus no it is not. The robot would load the dishes into the the dishwashing machine, then put the clean dishes away when the dishwashing cycle is complete.
Goddamnit…why do my arguments never go as planned.
“Remember when Elon said” is really low-hanging fruit. There’s like a brazilian things he’s said that are total bullshit.

We couldn’t organize enough people to go stand in a line for 20 minutes and scribble in a few little pencil bubbles to prevent the hell upon earth that is currently happening.
Unfortunately there will be no revolution or uprising or meaningful riots until things are far, far, far worse than where they are now.
Our citizens couldn’t sacrifice 20 minutes out of their lives to prevent what appears to be the beginning of the end of the USA; they’re certainly not going to give up their homes and livelihoods and freedom anytime soon.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If AI that good, why won't AI companies just replace their CEOs with it?
19·11 天前I think you already know the answer because you asked the question.
The CEOs are the ones trying to convince everyone (investors really) that AI can replace humans to try to increase profits. That’s it.
LLMs/AI are fantastic tools, but that’s all they are. Just tools. The CEOs are selling the AI revolution fantasy.

Green tea, red wine, and cottage cheese too.
And TOMATOES. What? I have personally met people who literally declare to the whole room that they’re allergic to tomatoes, then chow down on pizza or fries with ketchup.
