OpenStreetMap community@lemmy.ml•Is there a way to see which objects haven't been updated in years?English
3·2 days agoEveryDoor works great for this (marks 5+ yo POI’s with a yellow signing, not in the map but below), very useful when using your phone. On a computer, also Overpass Turbo is great, for example: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/2vBx Click ‘run’ to see the results. Or you can modify the date and the location then run the script.

3·10 days agoHere (Netherlands) basically all our family and friends app groups moved to Signal. Only some groups with parents of the kids’ school class, or colleagues, stubbornly keep clinged to whatsapp. For most cases, some negative news items about whatsapp/Meta/zuckerberg with regards to privacy and/or Zuckerbergs Trump-fetisjism, created enough momentum to move at least half of the group to another app (signal in this case). Afterwards, FOMO usually does the job in getting the other people over as well.
EuropellinoretoEuropean Tech Sovereignty•Shouldn’t Elon’s public surveillance on wheels get more focus than things we have personal control over, like Facebook?English
2·11 days agoThat’s right, although we shouldn’t focus solely on Tesla. There are an increasing number of Chinese car brands (and I’m not even talking about all the Chinese video doorbell models) to which exactly the same applies.
Me too. (Using Every Door, Go Map! an sometimes nice but tooo slow web-based mapcomplete in the mean time)

20·2 months agoFor everyone who still don’t get it: It’s time to stop being obedient slaves to emperor Donald. Stop buying American. Support European jobs, business, economy. Buy European.
Some of them I wouldn’t include or even use, because they are too eager to continue doing business in russia, thereby paying taxes to the russian state that uses 46% of their budget for their war against Europe.
Evernote, Capacities, Notesnook, Standard Notes (Not all of them fully European)
Don’t know if it’s a useful answer to your question, but might try offering the addition / updating of company locations info as a service to companies. For example check for a bunch of shop brands whether or not most of their shops are on osm, and if they aren’t (or very outdated), you make an offer to add/update. Then there are a few possible outcomes (besides no reaction):
- ‘yes, please help us!’
- ‘oh, we didn’t know OSM exists. Thanks for the tip, but we’ll manage it ourselves’ -> which is also a good outcome for OSM.
- ’why should we do that?’ / ‘no, too expensive’ -> evaluate your offer description or price

3·3 months agoAdding a business to Mapy, doesn’t add it to OSM. The other way around it usually does (usually with a lag of a few days to weeks)

6·3 months agoReviews and pictures can be added in Mapy (https://mapy.com/), an OSM based map provider from Czech Republic. Quite useful as an alternative for google maps imho. Has pics, reviews, favourite lists, etc.
For updating / checking shops, companies, etc, the Every Door app is useful too.
Also Go Map!! for map improvements in general.
(All of them OpenStreetMap)

6·6 months agoAll other non-us maps mentioned here are, afaik, based on openstreetmap. OpenStreetMap itself is a database rather than a useful googlemaps replacement for navigation etcetera. Apps like Mapy and CoMaps are more useful for day-to-day use.

21·7 months agoI recently tried to calculate this for my company. I wouldn’t call it negligible, but the impact of all video calls turned out to be much greater than the impact of AI.

Europe@feddit.org•Dutch public and private sectors dependent on US cloud servicesEnglish
2·7 months agoInsightful (or probably: depressing) website shows the Dutch dependency on US tech for digital services like mail and websites. zijnwealautonoom.nl (‘are we autonomous yet’). Red button more clearly marks the US part of it.

True, but Signal is quite clear they’ll leave the US if necessary. (And Mark ‘privacy-is-dead’ Zuckerberg on the other hand, is quite clear his highest priority is to fulfill all trumps wishes)
