I sometimes want to do this but then I realize I can make a better cake myself.

Programming@programming.dev•Recommendations for opensource Jetbrains equivalents?
2·2 小时前I think Jetbrains is still fine as an editor but yes, the tooling is getting worse and worse. I recently stopped using the DB tool because it simply wasn’t able to reliably connect to my databases. Dbeaver is working great with same databases. For a easy fix that would be my recommendation: community editor Jetbrain tolls for editing code, external tools for git/db/docker and so on.
For personal projects I use neovim and while is a great editor with all the features I need it is a constant struggle. Maintaining configuration is really difficult. If you’re using nvim already turning it into IDE can be a fun project. If you’re not familiar with it I wouldn’t recommend it for development. There’s just too much work.

politics @lemmy.world•“Voters are sick of the 2-party system. A new poll shows they’re open to big changes”
2·3 小时前This can be done on local level but on national level you would need constitutional reform which is extremely unlikely.

Technology@lemmy.world•Open-source stealth USB hides an encrypted partition behind an 8GB decoy drive Phantom Drive appears as a regular USB stick until you create a text file to unlock the hidden dataEnglish
4·5 小时前Yes, but you can just carry encrypted hard drive with you. Hiding encrypted data is useful pretty much only for legal reasons. You want to take it across border and are worried TSA agent will force you to decrypt it or something. What is safer in that case? Carrying a USB stick with hidden encrypted partition or not carrying anything at all and downloading the data later? I would say the latter. Smuggling encrypted data through custom checks into a war zone with limited internet access is the cool but unlikely spy games scenario I was talking about. Encrypted microSD card would be even more secure in that case.

7·6 小时前I would upload encrypt file somewhere and download it when needed. If you’re worried someone will actually access your USB stick looking for encrypted data, why carry it at all? It’s cool if you want to pretend you’re a spy or something but it’s not very practical.

3·6 小时前I understand the app is great
It’s not even that great anymore. In the recent years the app got bigger and bigger, the UI more confusing, it got intrusive features that are impossible to disable while not adding anything of value.
For example, it started playing distracting, ugly. looped videos by default with no clear way to disable this. At the same time it became impossible to say “don’t play this song even again”.

101·9 小时前Time for corporations to create “premium” brands with same quality as before but at 10x the price. Once those get popular lower quality again and pocket the profits. When people start complaining about lower quality create new premium brands…
