It’s not an actual efficiency or productivity metric but I would say it’s more of a metric shooting workforce passivity and leadership’s power over employees.

I was behind two starlink employees last year waiting to board a flight and they were just glazing musk for several minutes. They chatted about how Elon was dropping the hammer on WFH and how their teams’ metrics included in-office time which was sent to all teams and viewable by all. One of them laughed when they saw that one coworker only had 85% in-office time and gleefully said “fired”. The goals of the CEO completely subsumed into her own being.

It felt very “Enron: smartest guys in the room” but I think there’s at least a nugget of that ideology in every capitalist firm

I figure China with massive ramp up of domestic company production, and Europe with viable alternatives from local manufacturers like VW and MB have the steepest drops but also places like Australia that has no domestic auto manufacturing and doesn’t have import restrictions on Chinese EVs
