GorGor@startrek.websiteto Just Post@lemmy.world•An email from Steve Jobs to the CEO of Adobe in 20052·2 days agoOh! Enforcement is a joke, no doubt, but that doesn’t mean it is legal, just makes the government work hard for it and since they were strapped (now scrapped), they don’t pursue action against these fuckers.
It’s because they used the prequel bullshit by Kevin J. Anderson as a basis. He is a shit writer.
I would much rather see a God Emperor series. There is so much you could do with that.
I really miss our used book store. It was tiny but packed, and it had that smell.

GorGor@startrek.websiteto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Car race where cars cannot cost more than $5007·5 days agoSome buddies and I actually got an old firebird with a blown head gasket for lemons. Got it running, and then realized how much more we would have to pay for all the safety gear… We were still willing but had some disagreements for who was gonna pay what when and so the main backer pulled out and the dream went up in smoke…
You do the cheese smoking yourself?
Listen, Im over here wearing my floaties, watching sales people doing a triple gainer off the high-dive. I’m not trying to pretend to be especially good with the social skills. All I’m saying is water is wet. Some people have an affinity to those sorts of skills, some don’t. Some people work at it. Some can’t. Everyone has to at least bathe though. That’s a metaphor, but also not.
Why do you need to be forced by society to develop social skills?
Social skills is another way of saying the abilities required to function in a society. You might as well ask why do you need to learn to swim to get in the pool.
Why isn’t putting your best forward enough?
Often it is, but to stretch the metaphor used above, they are going to be stuck in the shallow end.

There is plenty to be weary about another Obama term.

How we allowed him to lead the HHS is beyond me.
I’m on the 7th and most recent.
The thru line meanders a bit, but not too bad. I wish I had read them chronological instead of in order (5 and 6 are swapped, and 6 is a bit different tone)
I think of them as popcorn books. Very light, quick reads. I actually read the first two on a flight back from Europe. Definitely fun, somewhat predictable/formulaic but it doesn’t take anything away for me.
