Well I also seriously doubt they would nationalize anything.
Nationalize it. The public now owns it and it pays for utilities for the public.

World News@quokk.au•'The planting season is now,' but war in Iran has sparked a global fertilizer shortage
1·1 day agoAnd when there is a massive global heat wave this summer, as seems likely with an unusually large el nino, and there are crop failures the world over, after they have used a lot of their stockpiles, what happens then? It seems unlikely that the global oil economy will return to a stable rate any time soon.
Every fertilizer plant in Bangladesh is closed. Many in India are. I’m sure you can find further examples, or will in the next week. I agree that there are ways to mitigate this, but there are going to be famines in entire regions.

World News@quokk.au•'The planting season is now,' but war in Iran has sparked a global fertilizer shortage
1·2 days agoHow quickly do you think that will happen? Who do you think owns that land? Who is going to work that land suddenly? Where are the tools to do it? Where is the water for those plants, as in many areas you need extensive irrigation networks for that? Industrialized farming is the method that we have been feeding billions, and if you suddenly turn off one of the inputs, MANY MANY POOR PEOPLE WILL DIE. You can’t just DOUBLE THE ARABLE LAND COVERAGE in a few months.
I expect that many people will try to do what you suggest and it will be woefully inadequate and there will remain a devastating famine.
And your response was “eh it’ll be fine.”

I do understand that revolution allows authoritarians to swoop in and take control, but my only question is, HOW MUCH TIME WILL REFORMS TAKE? Because if it is more than 1 year, we don’t have the time. Sorry. It’s that simple. Thermodynamics is a real bitch sometimes and WE DONT HAVE TIME to be dicking around for the next 10 years while the people in power claim they are working on changing things.
Edit: please everyone go read some climate science data and tell me we can afford a few more years of this shit.

1·5 days agoI cannot express how deeply I want people to consider the effects of things at a system scale. Every. Single. Day. I mention to someone that something we are dealing with is evil, something seemingly benign. I have to try to explain why this thing is bad and it just seems so good damned obvious to me because I have been thinking this way for years. But for most people, cause and effect ends when they close their eyes.

Technology@lemmy.world•Scientists uncovered the nutrients bees were missing — Colonies surged 15-foldEnglish
3·6 days agoForgive me, it’s not good news that a company has it. That’s evil and they will destroy people lives. BUT the yeast exists now. When we die out because we are unimaginably stupid, that yeast is likely to live on and help the bees to do so as well. The bees i more worried about because they don’t love heat

22·6 days agoThe GOOD news is that yeast doesn’t really respect property lines. Or quarantines. Or much of anything. That shit will spread organically easily enough. It will be a while, but now that the strain exists (and is being constantly refreshed with the corpro product) it should help all bees everywhere. Maybe bees will start farming it like ants do. Would be fun

5·7 days agoOops I mined the runway. Oops a drone hit the runway. Oops the air defense isn’t actually all out and now 300 American paratroopers are dead.
If we bent our entire economy around it, yeah maybe. We’re not doing that and that wouldn’t be a “success.” It would be a phyrric victory AT BEST.

13·7 days agoHow do think a ground invasion of Iran, the famously impossible to invade area for literally thousands of years, would go? Do you think that it would be like Iraq where the USA blitzkrieged with tanks through to the capital? Not likely. The entire region is mountains. Rock slides would be a disaster in waiting (and able to be triggered via artillery or drones) at every turn.

Even if he were punished in the afterlife, I don’t believe that whoever would be punishing him would do a thorough enough job. I’d like to see to it personally.
