  • Trolling is what happens when someone decides normal human interaction is overrated and instead tries to provoke, annoy, or derail others on purpose.

More precisely, trolling is posting or saying things not because they’re true or useful, but because they’re likely to trigger emotional reactions . That can include:

    1. Deliberately offensive or absurd claims
    2. Pretending to hold extreme views just to bait responses
    3. Pursuing arguments for personal entertainment rather than wider discussion
    4. Repeatedly derailing conversations

The key feature isn’t just being wrong or rude. It’s intent . A troll wants a reaction. If people get angry, confused, or dragged into pointless debate, the troll considers that a win.

The term itself comes from fishing, where you “troll” by dragging bait through the water and waiting for something to bite. Internet trolls just swapped fish for human attention, which, as it turns out, is even easier to catch.

  • That’s a common reaction to things too difficult to rationalize otherwise: apathy.

If you want to feign sympathy because you think it’ll make you look good, go for it.

Dale Carnegie might encourage you to accept the worst possible outcome -really accept it- then try to improve upon it. And keep trying to improve upon it.

This goes hand in hand with ACT - acceptance and commitment therapy - which is a common method used to help people deal with grief and getting unstuck (overcoming anxiety, fears, etc.), and acceptance is the critical first step. Once you really accept things, that gives you the foundation for commitments to improve the situation.

And they don’t necessarily have to be related. You could accept that your partner has dumped you and your commitment might be moving onward with your life by taking/investing time for yourself.

Or you could accept that a war on the other side of the world is not it really influenced much (or at all) by your decisions so you instead you might go for a bicycle ride or go fishing. Something you would rather do than interact with content that you ‘don’t give a fuck about.’

  • Go with the grain here. Then I’ll sometimes go across the grain but still kind of with it.

Going against isn’t worth the chance of irritation and in grown hairs.

Like my mustache area i like to do downward then from the middle of the lip towards my cheeks. I do similar with my cheeks. I’ll go down first then from my side burn to my lips across the grain.

If against the grain works for you then more power to ya.
