A small boat is (well, was, these are probably ~2008 prices I’m remembering) cheap. It’s probably been ‘patched’ by marinas and such, but at one time you could get a small sailboat for 10-20k, and get electricity+dock space for a tenth of the price of an apartment’s rent. You would be living in ~200 square feet at best (and probably less than that) but it was doable. For a family of three, you could probably swing that lifestyle with a 40k boat, which is still well under a typical house. Again, it would be ridiculously small, but it’s possible. A friend of mine grew up on a sailboat like that.

Alms of the relatives is pretty much it, buuuut retirement has been a thing for the upper middle class for a while. Just about every british story in the last few hundred years has a significant portion of their main characters ‘retiring’ to the country, as an example.

Star fox and rogue squadron were probably my top games for the n64. Diddy Kong racing was right up there with them, and mario tennis and shadows of the empire rounding out the top 5. I think that most of the people I knew with n64s were in agreement on the star fox game being one of the best.

I didn’t realize there were 7 games now, damn. I always forget the SNES and 3DS. If you want a similar game, down to the cheesy pilot headshots and text boxes while flying (with the oh so common roguelike progression and basic lack of story that modern games seem to love), you could try Whisker Squadron. The gameplay is pretty fun, if basic.
