Technology@lemmy.world•Lifetime Plex Pass subscriptions are tripling in price from $249.99 to $749.99, starting July 1, 2026English
3·1 hour agoI bought the lifetime plex pass years ago for like $50, and I wouldn’t even pay that today. The service is so fucking subpar, that I assume the only reason people still use it is they don’t know any better and aren’t technical enough to do the slightly more work involved with making jellyfin functional.
I moved over a few years ago during the pandemic (maybe before, what even is time anymore) and I have 0 complaints.

5·1 hour agoHmmmm, who could be responsible for this completely expected result of underfunding? Surely not the party that has been in control of everything for 2 years, or at least partially in control of Congress for the last 16 years, right? They say they’re very fiscally minded and are America first, so there’s no way they would intentionally destroy critical institutions, right?
RIGHT?!?!

2·16 hours agoNot a shill or anything, but my fitdesk under the desk bike has lasted me the last 10 years of use at work (and wfh). It makes some noise as I pedal, but that’s about it.

3·17 hours agoLike I am supposed to put half of the bag back into the cupboard?
Yeah. Even better, don’t take the bag of chips out for the snack, only take out a bowl or so of them and don’t just keep refilling the bowl, that’s the hard part. Not having your snack bag readily available means you have to expend effort to go get more, and that’s generally when I lean into my lazy habits. Because I have to go all the way downstairs and across the house to get more.

I had some slimeball try that shit with me after my mother died. I told him to take it to the courts so he can get laughed out of the room and pay court costs cuz my mother died pennyless and I’m not making that my problem.

4·22 hours agoUnfortunately, I’m fairly certain e911 isn’t super helpful against people already spoofing their number and location.
I’m vaguely aware of possible feature rfc to add another layer to prevent spoofing, but given how lazy telecoms are about doing validations MUCH more basic than extending a protocol/schema, I’m not holding my breath.
Just don’t comment on these posts then. It’s literally that easy. No one here wants to hear your baby vomit of an opinion

I buy meat from local farmers who treat their animals well, when I choose to eat meat. Most of the time I just don’t eat meat.
You won’t take cheese and milk from me tho.

38·1 day agoConsidering our telecons can’t (won’t) even enforce basic fucking origin checking, it’s not surprising.
These companies have ways of validating calls, it just takes money to setup and enforce, and we can’t waste money on silly things like basic safety when the shareholder value is at stake.
This meme implies that AI data centers have been around for a long time. They have not.
This response implies that you actually understand the point being made. You don’t. If you think this is only about AI datacenters, I have to assume you’re letting the AI ‘think’ for you. Otherwise, that says a lot about you, and none of it is positive.
AI have been running in datacenters for over a decade, it didn’t just spring up overnight while the companies are building datacenters that cost billions in hardware that will be replaced in less than 5-10 years. They might as well be setting the cash on fire, it would harm the planet less than the result of pissing away billions of dollars on datacenters that may be bankrupt in under a decade when the AI companies start actually charging for cost and hardware that will need replaced before then.
intelligence /ĭn-tĕl′ə-jəns/
nounThe ability to acquire, understand, and use knowledge.
Much like you, AI is incapable of understanding anything, they just regurgitate what they hear.
AI aren’t intelligent, they’re stochastic parrots that can process words as math to generate a facsimile of intelligence to make the ignorant think it’s smart.
