Shit, rich people are dying? We better get around to fixing this whole air travel issue asap!
Seriously, it seems like plane crashes are replacing school shootings as the American tragedy-de-jour
Exactly. Even pressure-treated wood gets pockmarked relatively quickly with nicks and scratches. It’s not visible on wood since it’s already so textured, but a transparent surface would be rendered opaque.
That aside, the whole article reads like AI slop. This paragraph is particularly obvious:
Instead of refilling the pores with epoxy, the team soaked the cellulose layer in a mixture of egg whites and rice extract. A curing agent called diethylenetriamine was also added to keep the atrial see-through. Importantly, the team says that the amounts of the various chemicals and reagents used in the process were small enough to present a danger to the environment. According to the team’s statement, they were “left with semi-transparent slices of wood that were durable and flexible.”
It’s just a collection of four sentences without any real unifying idea. And the latter two sentences are complete nonsense if you really read them.
It’s like the pilot of a plane saying “well I warned you we were going to crash into that mountain, you idiot.” Not only did they fail to avoid it, they apparently had no plan in place for what to do after they crashed the damn plane.
This whole community skews hard towards dumb neolib slop. I still follow it because it’s honestly kind of fascinating to watch liberals respond to any pushback with the same blind rage that you’d encounter on r/conservative. The replies to your comment are a perfect example.
I also like, “Israeli bombs strike Gaza”. How did Israel’s bombs get up in the sky? Did they not expect them to fall to the ground and explode?
How about “Israel bombs Gaza”?
Really I’m quite partial to this one.
NYT will always act the apologist for mass-murder if it aligns with US foreign policy. Or beat the war drum (see: Saddam, WMD) if called on to do so.
Your guess is as good as mine; I couldn’t speculate on the thoughts of mass murderers. The cynic in me says that shootings no longer represent compelling content to the average consumer, so it doesn’t get pushed as hard.
I haven’t looked up any actual statistics comparing recent mass shootings in the US, so I really can’t say.
