Baking can be deviated, but only specific ways! Flavorings can be changed (orange extract instead of lemon) but you can’t change amounts of butter. Not without having a deep magical knowledge that I don’t have lol

My father was, shortly, a short order cook. So we learned some from him. Mother was also an adequate home cook despite her thinking she wasn’t. So we learned cooking from them.
I learned baking from teaching myself by “following recipes exactly and precisely” which usually worked. Having to follow the rules really helped for baking.
I still don’t know why mothers friends didn’t understand what preheating the oven meant!!! Don’t throw shit in there while it’s preheating at least not cookies!!!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Really tall people see others differently. For example, they see more of others' heads and less of others' bodies. They also see more of the background.
4·1 day agoMy mother’s husband was 6’9". Sadly he’s shrinking in his old age. It annoys him.
The first time my mother was genuinely interested in a hobby of mine was when I started gardening last year. It was the first time I heard pride in her voice that wasn’t tied to education?
I’m very emotional now.
It wasn’t really about the Angewomon (though pretty angel is cool) it was just being listened to and involved in a conversation that didn’t feel like it would turn condescending and mean randomly because I missed some vital thing :<
Even without YouTube, mother hated hearing me talk about Digimon and stuff. It was depressing. I had to listen to her ramble about her stupid colleagues, she could have at least pretended to listen to me ramble about Angewomon.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•stalagTite and stalagMite: The "t" in stalactite looks like a stalactite, hanging from the ceiling. Similarly, the "m" in stalagmite looks like a stalagmite, rising from the floor.

My tongue is… like smooth underneath? Nothing that looks anything like these! I’m scared!
The Bad Forks are kept around because my dingus of a twin wants the heavy cutlery (hiss boo) while I prefer only the lightest of cutlery.
Also the heavy ones are fine for tearing apart chicken and stuff, just not for eating.
We did throw away the one soup spoon that did fuck all and was universally panned by all three people.

5·3 days agoUppermost leg and far right leg are the back legs, with the tail inbetween. Imagine the back half of the cat is on its back, stomach up.
The rest of the cat is rotated towards the camera. One arm slung over the belly, other arm splayed out in front. If the arm over its belly was instead next to the uppermost leg, cat would just be fully in its back!

3·3 days agoIt’s funny because I played homescapes well before these ads, they were just bejeweled like stuff. The ads then started and now every so often you get a puzzle from the ads do they can’t be sued for false advertising. At least, last I checked. Haven’t played for ages, watched a few people show them off though.
