How would that work exactly? Where would the money for the workers and their families be coming from?
Just a guy. Literally. What more can I say?

Fair enough, thanks for that

People are arguing all sorts of other causes like obesity, genetics, etc.

No, I genuinely don’t know how I feel about it for the reasons I outlined in the post above. I’m simply asking people for their views to get a clearer idea of the bigger picture. Plus, if you read all of the comments here, some people do make interesting points on why it could be considered ethical, like affordability for example, points that I never even thought of.

So where do you stand on the debate then? Do you believe there’s a ‘trade off’, so to speak?

Thanks for researching. Any specific citations?

Can you explain in a little more detail please?

Can you provide an example please?

If everyone built them at the highest quality, then every product would be at the highest price point
I’ll be honest, I didn’t even think of that point. Thanks for sharing, interesting perspective.

Short, sweet and to the point. I like it. I also like more detailed answers also.
Edit: I clearly also like overusing the word also, also.

That, plus the fact that they are making money off of another culture. As it is their culture, do you think they should be paid for it too?

I’m not sure tbh. That’s kind of why I asked the question, and hopefully other’s views may shed light on this ‘issue’

True that waste is also a factor in this.

Yeah it’s a right dilemma. Because on one hand, I feel like they should make products to the highest quality if they can so that the consumer has to spend less money, but at the same time if it leads to the company going bankrupt, what of the workers and their families?

You rank those in separate categories? Interesting…
Hi, OP here. First of all, yes I am absolutely keeping an open mind. Second of all, I wasn’t ever suggesting that fat people were ‘lesser’ or anything like that. As for your question about what specific things about their life do I care about, well quality of life would be one. And make no mistake: I’m not suggesting that every case of obesity means negative effects/quality of life. However, as I stated in the post above, 1 in 8 people are classified as obese, which amounts to approximately one billion people worldwide (I don’t know if you’d classify that as an epidemic, but I would). Most studies I’ve read conclude that there is evidence of a direct link between obesity and lower quality of life. If that’s not motivation to seek help for them (providing they want it, and I’m fairly sure a lot of them would) then I don’t know what is. I’m not doubting that thin/average/anything else people can also be unhealthy, but the root cause and therefore the solution is different for poor health due to obesity compared to poor health from lack of weight. We have to tailor solutions/treatment to help those asking for it depending on weight because each cause of poor health warrants a different solution. It’s not a case of singling them out as a group, it’s a case of tailoring treatment to that specific issue. And by the way: Im not the one who decided to classify obesity (not the people) as a disease. The World Health Organisation (and others) are the ones who classified obesity as a disease. They are the ones who classify it as an epidemic, stating on the website linked above. Heck, they literally have a page called ‘controlling the global obesity epidemic’
