12 days agoI had this exact same problem, so I purchased the Yubikey security key. My biggest gripe is how Duo prevents me from factory resetting my phone as it is tied to my device unlike email, SMS, or the passwords I use. It is such a hassle that I had to call the IT help desk to reset Duo instead of being able to do it myself. My work account out of the blue started requiring it, so I was caught flat footed. In addition, my state university also requires a security key.
Android Auto did take some setup for me, but it works just fine. It is not too much of a hassle to setup if it is installed through the GrapheneOS store. I did have to return to stock Android for a time as I could not get the GPS to work properly, but it worked for the longest time at first, and it has been working working just fine for a while now. I use Ally, DIscover, and American Express for my banking and credit card needs, and I have never even had the slightest amount of trouble doing so. My app for work has never been a problem, nor has any app ever been a problem besides Android Auto at first. I do not even use the Google Play Store; I use the Aurora Store and F-Droid.
