They had an election for a new leader that went really well(ranked-choice voting is awesome) and Lewis is sending out a strong, clear message. They’ve always been available but Canadians fall so easily for the idea that the Liberals are the “default” that we chose 95% of Pierre Poilievre to avoid him instead of raying behind the party that actually demand real change. In 2021, the NDP got well over half the votes that the LPC did but because the seats didn’t work out proportionally everyone just went “the NDP has no support”.

To be honest, I’m so full of rage at the system and the people who prop it up that every so often I just need to let myself feel happy and proud of the people who live in said system and help to starve it, not feed it.
Absolutely there are people who like it because it helps validate their shitty positions but there are also people who just need a win to keep them going in pushing back. It helps to know that your anger is not a lonely anger, that your need for justice is not unique and small.
When was the US a “rallying force”? I remember them being the worst example of how to run a modern civilization, and I remember always being ranked far too low in personal freedoms, education, and healthcare while be far to high up for prison population and gun violence.

Get this, I can also look it up on the already insanely powerful phone in my pocket, see the options with my own eyes, look at the map so I know where I’m going, and make my decisions on my own because I’m not an adult baby who needs his sunnies to tell him what to do.

We functioned without this bullshit just fine only a few years ago. This whole AI buzz is a post-covid thing and people are acting like we’d all die and civilization would grind to a halt if we don’t let data centres fuck us up our collective asshole.
You can at least look at options presented to you. Even Google Maps will let you manually sift through businesses. Letting your fucking sunglasses tell you “go here” is immensely different, dude.
And still, I don’t get their use case unless it’s to be deliberately sneaky. Even their own ads are just “if you’re a pathetic idiot with no friends or ability to plan ahead even a little bit, these are the glasses for you!”
At a fancy restaurant by yourself and don’t know how the utensils work?

Ok? Really just sounds like the commuter rail could come more often which is a very easy fix. Public transit is pretty much only ever bad because governments won’t fund it, car-centric infrastructure is highly propritized and its peak is still trash.
Traffic is bad enough here, adding the million people who use just the metro per day to that would be the end of it all, and that’s not to mention our bike network and ability to walk to so many things. We upgrading our commuter rail to a proper high-frequency, dual-direction light rail system that will connect much of the island that has never been properly served. It’s gunna pop the hell off.
Don’t forget that once you’re out, the first people to screw over veterans, in any country really, are conservatives. They got their worth out of you and if you die in the streets that’s a you problem.
Commuter rail usually comes more frequently than that, no? And if you know when it comes and it’s not two hours late then you’re waiting around for it unless you’re way too fuckin’ early.
See, what you’re not getting is that the average US experience is just incredibly fucking mid. I live in Canada, specifically Montréal because the rest of the country is very much like the US. Cars are the only way to get around, you can’t even safely and confidently ride a bicycle in most North American cities.
The best the US has to offer is worse than pretty good but not the best in the EU. The worst the EU has to offer is nowhere near as bad as a fairly common, even if not universal, experience in the states.
Nothing from of either of our comments even fuckin’ matters though because this post is specifically calling out the people who think sitting in traffic “freedom” but 15 minute cities are tyrannical overreach.
It’s partly the fact that hundreds of millions of people the world over, possibly several billion people, believe that they only got there because they were competent and do nothing to stop them.

As much as I also just think AI is just going to make lazy people lazier, and we’ve already seen some effects regarding our ability to problem solve, the real issue is that none of the wonderful utopian AI stuff is going to come true at the rate we’re going. I don’t guve a fat flying fuck how good or bad AI is, I care that it’s being used to spy on us, make decisions no human will ever review, and has already led to mass layoffs without any kind of safety net for those people. I care that it’s raping the environment so some sentient dick-cheese can get worse results than a near-zero effort search would give them. Increased productivity has yet to give anyone more free time, they just axe someone else and overwork whoever’s left.
We are NOT ready for AI at ANY level. It’s a weapon being used against the working class. If you think the issue is with its quality then you need to sit the fuck down, shut the fuck up, and pay some goddamn attention.
