It‘s not, with all the fancy nicknames the Brits use… Striker, Spartan, Scorpion, Sabre, Scimitar, Sultan, Samaritan, Samson und Spartan, Bulldog, Warrior, … 🤪
And the new one will be Ajax, Ares, Athena, Argus, Atlas and Apollo.

To be fair: they always said it is a stopgap solution. They had NATO obligations to meet and neither the budget nor the time was there to acquire something else. They took a look at the Apache and Cobra-family in the process and decided to go cheap.
Let’s see what the next round brings up.

I bet it will excel in light reconnaissance roles. The electronics and the instrument will be top notch.
Also, working from a stand off distance might work. But it is not hardened and the smallest AA or manpad will hunt it down.

Doesn’t matter.
We agree on importance and that the Airbus H145M is a joke. If CAS is needed German Bundeswehr must hope for the Poles, Brits or Americans to be around.
Edit: I hope Germany opts for the Leonardo helo, too.

a) take a look at the Leonardo AW249 fenice, b) only Germany is substituting the Tiger with the Airbus light jokie-i-copter.

The first rule of the church of tux is to talk about the church of tux 🙏

Do you mean the new Ajax (Ascod-based)?

But are they?
The past two years orders have spread over Rheinmetall’s cost intense Lynx (Hungray, Italy), some GDELS Ascod variants and different CV90 variants (Baltics, Scandinavian countries). France is still using its custom made War Baguette (VBCI), just like Germany is rocking the Puma and Poland the Borsuk.
Orders are determined by budget and also by availability. The Ascod won a tender (Latvia) just because of the CV90 backlog being too full. Meaning: the European market is still pretty mixed with bigger countries going with custom solutions.
And yes: in my opinion the CV90 is the best bang for the buck and the more users the better. Its reputation is unchallenged.
Edit: You might also want to take a look at wheeled IFVs (like the VBCI) and European mass orders of Boxer based platforms as medium forces.

I hereby grant the application for luck. May your Debian boot and bring joy.

Doesn’t the tiger shine with a bad reputation in all user countries? It is known to be a maintenance and availability nightmare and barely flies. Germany is tossing it, Australia is tossing it…
Can a captain explain why further upgrades are considered economic?
Some years ago (in the early days) I used it as daily driver in the office. My personal device was a MacBook.
I really enjoyed the highlights and hated the lowlights (UI breaks, and bodged updates).
Just for fun, I should really re-visit that distro and acknowledge the steady progress.

Ich frage mich aufrichtig in welchem Punkt der Karriere sich Politiker von dem/diesem Allgemeinwissen verabschieden.

Color me surprised.

Just a subtle reminder that we aren’t native speakers and still translating from our mother tounge. In my native language it would be normal to use article without any implications.

I had the same impression, especially since they are grounded like more than 50% of the time. But if anyone can make a use of them it is the Ukraine.

We‘ll se about the obsolescence if/when Ukraine gets the Australian Tigers.
Anyhow. I never understood Germanys purchase decision. Maybe they’ll consider or evaluate the Leonardo AW249 someday.
Thanks for the list!
I also like to post/maintain lists here, but people say they vanish too fast as lemmy is quite fast moving.
