pics@lemmy.world•Medieval reenactment fight, photo by Stephen MossEnglish
1·11 days agoThe OP is from a (likely scripted) reenactment for entertainment. In other photos you can see one combatant throwing a tankard and the other spitting in the others’ face both actions would get a DQ in most medieval martial arts competitions. Here’s a list of other medieval fighting leagues.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•For those with lower-back issues, what's been the best work-chair for you?English
3·11 days agoThose kneeling office chairs really hurt my knees, I’m too tall to use saddle chairs at a regular desk and with exercise balls its hard for me to get the height right. As far as chairs go what helped me was finding a chair with adjustible lumbar support, and adjustible spring tension on reclining. Steelcase used to offer all of these features but it looks like they don’t have as much adjustment now. I’ve heard good things about Herman Miller but I’ve never tried them. As for lifestyle changes: a heating pad to loosen cramps, free weights to strengthen, and a foam roller to help realign the spine have all helped me. ymmv obv.

If you like to research the macabre, look up Elmer McCurdy, a veteran turned outlaw that was mummified and used as a side show prop for roughly 50 years. His remains weren’t burried until the 70s.
I must have lucked out, the oddest thing at my childhood churchs’ potlucks were the ambrosia/watergate salad where they used ingredients that they liked instead of what the typical recipe calls for, or waldorf salads which had just a little too much mayo and not enough whipped cream.
This is an edit of an edit. Here is a less cropped version from a tiktok that I’m pretty sure uses ai to swap faces. It has a volume button baked into the bottom right corner so its not using the original base image either. I could have sworn there was a version on reddit/imgur that was older but I can’t find it.

This is an ancient meme, the earliest extant mention was 23 July 2010, way before photo generation was viable. You can see remnants of the original facebook conversation here. TLDR: The original circumstances aren’t much different from the OP except he allegedly stole from his parents to buy said items and his mom made him hold the sign in front of his school.

They’re usually too busy asking for us to ‘return the slab’ to talk about computers.
Just needs a plaid shirt and a pair of khakis and you’re most of the way there.
I’ve seen 2 groups of people that have an interest in there family history: people confronted with mortality, either their own or that of a loved one; and people interested in history and research in general. The people that OOP is describing are more interested in an identity than they are genealogy.
Sounds a lot like my 1st cousin twice removed. She and her mother used to go all over the country to court houses and libraries to get information and she self published her findings. Having been 101 in the early 2000s when she passed, she had some interesting stories. My favorites were the pranks that the young men in her home town would play. Like swapping the wheels on their wagon front for back on saturday night so when they went to church they were riding way up in the air, or dissassembling the outhouse and reassembling it upsidedown on the roof of the barn.
Once had a teacher explain to our class all the things you were not aloud to do with the school DSLR cameras. It was mostly what you’d expect: don’t leave it in your car, get it wet, etc., but when ‘don’t set it on fire’ got everyone’s curiosity the teacher explained that they had a student return a scorched camera with the excuse that they “wanted the audience to be able to feel the fire.”

Contamination may actually be a concern here since AFAIK no independent analysis of the clay pipe fragments or the bones has been done yet, but it’d have to be 2 coked up pothead lab techs since the clay pipe fragments were tested in a police narcotics lab in South Africa while the bones were tested at the excavation site in Milan.

Is this it? Seems to have been posted around the time the Chernobyl show was airing.
