I used to sell pcs at Sears back the day. There was this one weird family I sold a 486DX to and the wanted just one more peripheral…a scanner. You could return entire pc purchases at Sears up to 3 years later depending on how loud you’d yell… Us sales guys would lose the commission and we were straight commission those days so I got into pcs by keeping my stuff sold. They had to have a scanner and I went out to support … Every trick in the book with himem and config…memory optimizers … Couldn’t get that IRQ … all my tech buds tried too. Finally I gave them a free (pre release cus we had it for weeks) copy of win 95 all set up - because it could assign all those resources effortlessly without one text file. Windows wasn’t always purely evil.

We all have our limits - yours is a fair point of ease vs inconvenience. I think that is the market dominant force. That being said with how far any distro has come since I started messing around in 98… It’s close to being that easy.

You haven’t gotten any upvotes for this but I hope it’s because like me- I assume this is a viewpoint a lot of us think is definitely possible and so much so I’m surprised we havent fully proved at least the basics of it yet.

Upvote for Bazzite - the caveat being how much support the distro gets and how long it lives. That said it turned a truly piece of crap all in one hp to something that was fun in about 30 minutes. it’s a good gaming OS but I wouldn’t use it as my daily driver.

Sure… Heck you could even put some older steam games on it but… Older. As a smart TV or even a firewall or router it would be fine.

My first summons was when I was 18 …I ditched it… paid the fine. Back the it was 80 bucks. The next time some 30 years later I went. It was in San Diego superior and there were hundreds of other people in a huge hall and they were calling names. I tried my best to be invisible but my name came up. Next thing I know is everyone in the nury thinks I’d make a good foreman… Despite my objections that’s what they wanted. Ended up being a slip and fall case for a lady in a restaurant. I fought like hell to get her more compensation and w eventually reached a compromise. I got her a better settlement and wow what a cool experience.

In 30 years? Its happening now to anyone that ever had a medical emergency or a layoff . I think the administration just made it easier for people to borrow against their already meager retirement

I live in central TN. I’m a Miata guy and the cost is hurting my wallet but almost every other vehicle is a monster lifted truck with oversized tires etc. I have no idea how those guys with truck payments can afford gas.

Because of the inflation, the wife and I planned that we would do in state road trips for spring through fall because we really couldn’t afford anything more fancy but with a Miata I thought that would be a fun compromise. Gas prices shut that all down. I thought how can I go even cheaper than that ? Ok this year is patio cookout and staycation. Sure, look at the price of food! That brings us back to inflation. This year is the year of laying low and eating poor. Puzzles are still cheap… Sigh.
