google and microsoft are creating a fault line in tech. one that was previously only drawn by Apple. now everyone will be forced to either assimilate or decentralize. which ironically is exactly what the internet needed, it’s grown entirely too privatized in the past decade or so. i sincerely hope this results in more people thinking critically about their tech. and that the next billionaire with an “idea” doesn’t just make everyone complacent again. but all i can do is hope.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your BEST tech purchases?
2·3 days agoGamesir Cyclone 2. Best third party controller I’ve ever used and for only $50-$60. TMR joysticks, Hall Effect triggers that can be switched between hair trigger and full. Can connect wired, Bluetooth or 2.5ghz with a dongle. Can switch connection methods between Xinput, DSinput, Android, Switch. Not sponsored or affiliated in any way, I’m just very thankful that a controller like this exists for so relatively cheap after blowing through so many controllers in my life.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•[In an attempt to disenfranchise voters] US will start revoking passports for thousands of parents who owe child support, AP learns
791·4 days agothe people cheering this on like it’s actually a good thing are inept. the government doesn’t give a single fuck about children, let alone their parents not getting the money they deserve. this is to strip voting rights from even more people, that’s literally it.

Linux@programming.dev•Anti-cheat incompatibility on Linux is unacceptable from game developers and publishers — and Rocket League just proved why
2371·10 days agoi cannot possibly justify kernel level anticheat. cheating in games is just not that serious, sorry. there are much smarter ways to tackle that and i certainly don’t have evidence for this by any means but i’ve always assumed that kernel level anticheat is just spyware being justified by saying it’s to stop cheating in multiplayer games. insane to me that people are willing to play games w it.

411·10 days agojust like the gaming industry telling you 60fps is too low and your GTX series graphics card is inadequate today. but despite this i, amazingly, get by just fine. it’s literally just blatant consumerism.

4·18 days agoi’ve literally never considered decomps/recomps not being available to linux before now. feel pretty short sighted for that, that’s a crazy thing to think about. i tend to stay attached to media long after i’ve outgrown actually interacting with the source material and viva piñata is one of those cases. playing the games themselves tend to drive me insane, it’s just super frustrating for me w my ADHD. but gods do i love it. i love pretty much everything Rare did back then tho tbf lol.

Call for genocide of mostly children just so you can prop up a bunch of instagram houses on their corpses but can’t take a little death threat? glass houses and whatnot i suppose. i’m glad i switched off of it when i did, people should seriously stop recommending it for beginners.

2·22 days agothe pirates from reddit who have can’t hear a pirate talk about ethics and morality without shitting their fucking pants should’ve just stayed on the absolute cess pit that is r/piracy tbh. you’re screaming as loud as you can “i’m a fence sitting centrist coward!” as if you aren’t in the majority. some of us aren’t afraid of politics. simply get over it

that’s how they are NOW, but pessimism doesn’t get anyone anywhere.
