  • Ah, the link you’ve added AFTER my comment. Because nothing screams more fairness in a debate than going back and modifying your argument.

Also, the very article you quote does the polar opposite of what you claim. It does not discredit but actually support my “armchair archaeologist” theory (which wasn’t even a theory, just an example of how things COULD be misappropriated due to archaeological evidence generally being scarce):

Their results have established that Monte Sierpe wasn’t actually the handiwork of the Inca, but of an entirely different kingdom that controlled the area before they arrived. The researchers believe the rulers of this kingdom designed the Band of Holes to serve a purpose that was vital to their success and that the Inca later expropriated it for use as a tribute depot.

Arguably I’ve only gotten haflway through the article as it’s 2:30am here, but that very statement seems to suggest that said “discrediting” didn’t really happen.

  • Eh, it’s still just wild guesses.

All we really know is that someone(s) dug holes in a pattern, and possibly stored some maize and other materials in those holes.

It’s even possible that the storage purpose was way after the holes were created. What if at first they were made to slow down the enemy, then both people fighting in the area left, someone else came, saw some cool holes in a pattern and was like “awesome, we got this shitton of corn and reeds and whatnot, these holes will be perfect to store them in!”, and bam, now scientists are correlating the two because of the evidence being somewhat blurred.

A lot of archaeology is coming up with wild ideas supported by often very limited facts, and looking at other relevant sources that may or may not support the theory. This is especially true for sites that have little to no written confirmation of the purpose.

  • I just wish it was a native feature of browsers instead of something that is part of the page. Like, all the other permissions - camera, microphone, Bluetooth, USB, etc access - are native, why can’t be the “hey let me write some crap onto your device that other pages may or may not read” and “hey lemme see what I wrote onto your device when invoked from another website” requests be native too?

  • I also “love” the general American attitude - everyone else either works for a living or should starve, but the moment they’re hit with unemployment without a safety net, these very people become the “welfare queens” they constantly complain about.

Besides, this isn’t 1920 anymore. “Rugged individualism” isn’t the goal to live for. We live in a society - shocking, I know! - and this society shall always be built upon kindness and inclusivity and equality. That means no family left to fend for themselves, no children left starving in school, no person left without a roof over their heads… Making food a human right isn’t that hard to do, and interestingly it’s only the US and Isn’trael who vetoed said UN motion. I mean just consider how much food goes to waste every single day (and I’m not even talking about accidental waste like us ADHD enjoyers do, buying a tray of strawberries only to promptly forget about them and remember only when they’ve grown a winter fur coat and are ready to leave the fridge), and consider just how many farmers there are out there who would rather let all of that go to waste if they don’t get paid for it.

imagine how easy it would be to have all the leftover be bought by the government, and distributed to locations in need. Or how easily the local government (mayoral level) could confiscate housing that should be utilised but is staying empty purely because the landlord is a twat and won’t rent it out under market price…

But then again the US government does keep proving that it’s mostly thuggish mafia the citizens can’t trust, so not really surprised by it. Honestly, the US will greatly benefit from its impending collapse.

  • Okay so to quickly summarise: the octane number defines just how explosive the fuel is under compression. 100 means it’s the equivalent of a 100% iso-octane mixture.

The more explosive the fuel is, the sooner it detonates as the cylinder compresses it. If it detonates too soon, at too low a compression, that’s when your engine starts to knock. By adding ethanol you’re increasing the pressure needed for detonation, ensuring that the ignition system ignites the fuel at the appropriate time, thus improve the engine’s longevity.
