Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What does "upgrade you from tagged to blocked" means?
2·2 days agoI’m all ears if you have recommendations for “sweetheart inspirational dogpics”.
I tip 30% on top of the post-tax if it was good or if I like the people. I have the means, so it’s only fair. If the service was terrible or the food was awful I’ll do 20%.
Perfect username for this reply. I love it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a fun piece of free software I should learn to use this week?
2·7 days agoIt’s quite different. I’m a programmer and find it substantially better suited to my mental model than FreeCAD. Don’t get me wrong, I respect FreeCAD – even envy it a bit and all the features – but I need to imagine my shapes and describe how they fit together. I spend so much of my free time thinking of equations that product shapes (yay game dev) that it comes pretty naturally.
If you don’t program or prefer a more visual, arguably professional, workflow, you probably won’t like OpenSCAD.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How can people know what they want at a given moment?
2·7 days agoI think back to times I’ve eaten a thing and remember the sensation, then try replaying the feeling to see if it would be just as satisfying.
At the moment, I’m in the mood for a snack. I’m thinking about the dried fruit I had yesterday and the sensations it elicited when I ate it. Those same sensations of flavor and texture sound agreeable, so I’m thinking that would be nice.
Not everyone has this form of recall all the time. Some people have it intermittently. I asked my partner what she wanted to eat and she said she could not tell if she was hungry or if any food sounded good. I took this as a warning and we stopped at the nearest restaurant immediately. Fortunately, this was the right decision and we both felt better afterwards.
If you’re feeling hungry, imagine the smells of a food. Sense memory tends to run deep in people. If you find that you can’t recall or reject a sensation, that’s okay! Plenty of folks are in the same situation.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your least favourite thing about dating or romantic relationships?
3·9 days agoBeing around people feels like I’m holding my breath. Anyone. Even the person I’ve been dating for over a decade. But I need so desperately to be alone so I can breathe.
When people mistreat their significant others it triggers something in me. I overcompensate, doting on my SO. I make dinner, bake treats, clean, take care of doggo, and work full time. I get from Friday night to noon on Saturday for myself, and those are the only hours of the week where I feel like I can relax.
I care about my partners. I only want the best for them, but I’m so tired.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People with touchscreen laptops, how often do you use the touchscreen features?
4·15 days agoEvery once in a while I accidentally tap and am reminded I have a touch screen.
I have a much older laptop with a stylus interface that I’ll use to draw things when I need to.

4·16 days agoAs long as they let me keep the scan file. I love me some volunetric data.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What good things have happened to you, or for you, over the last week?
3·16 days agoI was able to fix a thing at work! And someone said “thank you”! The former happens less often than I’d like.
Honestly the worst decision they could have made while writing. I’m still kinda’ mad about it and I don’t know why.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•It's becoming widely accepted that it's not safe to put pictures of your children on social media... (cont. in post)
2·19 days agoYes. In fact, zero-knowledge proofs make it possible for me to do something like prove my age in a way that is verifiable by the site without the site knowing any other information about me AND without the government knowing what website I’m asking. It doesn’t even require an API. The government needs to digitally sign my identity papers and publish its signature. One time download and you can even do offline checks.
The EU digital ID program does this. Everyone has privacy.
No. I think the general consensus is that C# is faster.
From the devs: “According to some preliminary benchmarks, the performance of C# in Godot — while generally in the same order of magnitude — is roughly ~4× that of GDScript in some naive cases. C++ is still a little faster; the specifics are going to vary according to your use case. GDScript is likely fast enough for most general scripting workloads. C# is faster, but requires some expensive marshalling when talking to Godot.”
The cases where GDScript are faster consist of those where there’s a great deal of marshalling and unmarshalling, like with heavy engine calls and signaling. If you’re doing compute heavy work.
GDScript is still plenty fast, so use the one that’s most comfortable.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many people do you know from your neighborhood
3·20 days agoDefine “know”. I know the woman downstairs from me and her dog. I know the couple actually the hall and their dog. They just had a baby and I don’t know the name. I know the guy down the hall from me. He’s a good guy. I know the woman down the hall the other way and the guy on the same side. The other two units are rented on and off. New people. I forgot the name of the two folks that just moved in. Haven’t met the ones on the other side yet.
Knowing names and small things? Is that to know someone?
There are over a million people within 15km of me, so that’s not much.
