I was in class today and we were practicing clinical scenarios with a mannequin patient and the instructor acting as the “patient’s” wife. The instructor says “well I don’t think he’s had any abdominal surgeries, he doesn’t have any scars or anything”. I thought ‘well how would you know if he has scars on his abdomen?’ and then immediately realized I’ve been single way too fucking long.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Black Cars Are Much More Likely Than White Cars to Be Involved in an AccidentEnglish
19·3 days agoMy first car was tan. I used to have people pulling out in front of me all the time and I would get so mad about it. Then I started turning my headlights on all the time, even in the middle of the day. Suddenly people stopped pulling out in front of me and the amount of near misses I had from other drivers doing “stupid” things went to near zero. Apparently even tan cars can look like the road in the right conditions. DRL should be mandatory everywhere.

30·3 days agoI am curious if that data changes at all if headlights are on. I’d think that with headlights raising visibility of the black cars the incidence of accidents would start to get closer to the same for both colors of cars, but that’s just my uneducated opinion.

9·4 days agoI know nothing about Project Zomboid and I love reading your descriptions of it and how it sounds like it’s actually you and your friends in this world getting hurt by broken glass and depressed by bad pasta.
I knew it as both. He had a farm and a dog. Little kid me always imagined Bingo living on the farm herding sheep
I learned it as"Old McDonald had a dog and Bingo was his name-o" and now I’m curious about where and how the differences in the song came from

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Women 30+, how do you deal with all these symptoms? I've been dealing with all of this ever since turning 30 (am 32)
4·6 days agoMy 20s were spent in a horrible relationship that was like a frog in boiling water. I didn’t realize how terrible I was being treated until I got out of it and I’m still dealing with the fallout and the trauma, but I’m fucking free! And in the midst of all that I had undiagnosed endometriosis that the doctors kept dismissing and I also had undiagnosed ADHD.
In my 30s I got out of that relationship, got diagnosed with ADHD, and found a doctor who took my endo symptoms seriously and did surgery (all the best things in the world to her, she saved my sanity and my life).
My 30s are not easy, but my 20s were a cage and my 30s is doing what I want and feeling healthier doing it!

15·6 days agoI’m a woman in my mid 30s. I work 48 hours a week, attend school in person, train jiu jitsu, and deal with all the normal life shit that comes with living alone and having to keep my home clean and my cats and I alive and fed. I also do all that while suffering from migraines and having ADHD.
Am I tired? Fucking yes. Am I managing? Also yes.
My life is so much better in my 30s than in my 20s. If any young woman is out there reading this, your 30s is not the threshold to decrepit haghood, it is fine.
Also, I don’t drink energy drinks, or consume large amounts of caffeine. I also don’t drink alcohol. I just eat moderately healthy, stay away from most fast food, and try to exercise every day, even if it’s just going for a 30 minute walk because I’m too tired or too busy to do anything else.
I want to pick that purrito up, cover its little face and head in kisses, and then cuddle it against me. Which is pretty much what I do all the time to my cat, but he doesn’t let me purrito him and he’s also 10 years old.

3·12 days agoI don’t have hearing damage or tinnitus (yet, please universe do not add that to the list) and there is no possibility of sleep for me in a quiet room. It is pure torture. A fan is heaven, rain is fucking sublime, a ticking clock I literally can’t even consciously hear unless I focus super hard on it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anybody think or know that tire companies and shops throw objects in the streets to build business?
2·15 days agoYou think the CEO is doing it? If he isn’t than an employee of the business is doing it. The “company” isn’t some monster that works on its own, it needs employees to carry out its work.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anybody think or know that tire companies and shops throw objects in the streets to build business?
6·15 days agoBasically zero effort, except we need to get a bunch of low paid employees in on this conspiracy and send them out to throw shit on the roads and count on them to never get disgruntled and tell anyone or tell their spouses who might tell a family member who might tell a friend who might post about it on social media after they get a flat tire.
Find a different conspiracy, this one’s shit.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anybody think or know that tire companies and shops throw objects in the streets to build business?
7·15 days agoExcept a lot of tire companies have add-ons you can buy for extra money per tire (it’s not even that much if I’m remembering correctly) where they’ll replace the tire for free if you get a flat within a specified amount of time, unless it’s something like you stuck a knife in your sidewall.
So this wouldn’t benefit them at all.

When I was a kid we went on a field trip to the sewage plant. They had massive tanks (way bigger than swimming pools) full of sewage, and they pumped in large amounts of oxygen in to aerate it all. The worker told us that if anyone fell in there was very little chance of saving them because there was way too much air in the water to float, and you would sink right to the bottom and of course the sewage made it impossible for anyone to see through to find you quickly.
