I know this is selfhosted so most people here are hobbyists, but it’s a ton of work to selfhost in enterprise setting. I’d wager 90%+ of people using image registries are using Docker Hub, GHCR, or AWS ECR.

I direct Mac users to Ubuntu/GNOME and Windows users to KDE or Mint/Cinnamon.
That said I absolutely hate how stock GNOME doesn’t have an app drawer. People defend it, but I can’t get over not knowing what apps are open and the extra clicks it takes if you’re mouse navigating, as well as all the extra animations if you do go that route. And this is from someone that attempts to touch the mouse as little as possible. Not a fan of having to add a 3rd party extension for this. Reason I’m on KDE full-time now.

5·1 month agoSounds like you tried one bad feed. All the sites on my feed render perfectly fine.
AP, NPR, Political Wire, Al Jazeera, Ars Technical to name just a few.
The sites can be full of cookie popups, slower rendering, ads, etc.

With “regular” music though losing the discover ability would really suck :/
Yeah I’m no Apple fan, sold all their stuff. But I also remember how Apple constantly had a magnifying glass on them every gen so you get stuff like antennagate and bendgate while other similar phones with minor issues are never pointed out.
Nintendo is the same with their products. It’s usually overblown.
Why are you going right so much more than left

Reminder that Waymo and the ride share companies lobby against public transit and are Project 2025’s excuse as to why it can be refunded.
Nebula fucks, I had been putting off the lifetime sub for ages and finally bit the bullet one day and I’ve been using it more than YouTube. Feels good knowing the creators get more stake in it and are literal stakeholders without all the alrogithm nonsense.
They’ve made it seem like the lifetime sub won’t be around forever though, worth noting.

2·2 months agoI’ve been using Nebula, and I dig it. It’s owned by the creators and there’s no algorithm. Only sucks you can’t really share since it’s all paywalled. They have a guest pass but the person has to sign up so I doubt people would bother.

1·2 months agoI think it’s important to keep expectations realistic though…
in the case of Youtube there are very few groups/companies/whatever that could keep up with that kind of bandwidth. Federation helps here but it’s still a pretty niche thing for 99% of people who don’t know/care and just want their social media/forum/video site to work.
ZFS doesn’t really hog memory, rather it consumes almost all available memory as cache. But it frees it as soon as it’s needed.

In the release notes they say it’s still there but not a UI feature and intended for very advanced users.
